CIB Comic Invasion Berlin Wettbewerb zu BERLIN 2055

Als Schauspielerin ist es nie verkehrt, Preise zu gewinnen, aber nicht nur deshalb habe ich mich gestern sehr über diese Benachrichtigung gefreut: “If you don’t know already: You won one of the prizes of the CIB-Zine-Contest“ („Falls Du es noch nicht wusstest, Du hast einen der Preise beim CIB-Zine-Contest gewonnen“). Ich wusste es tatsächlich nicht, denn als die CIB – das ist die Comic Invasion Berlin – am 18. und 19. April stattfand, war ich gerade in Dortmund beim IFFF, dem Internationalen Frauenfilmfestival. Dort gewann die japanische Regisseurin Naomi Kawase den Wettbewerb mit ihrem Spielfilm ２つ目の窓 FUTATSUME NO MADO / STILL THE WATER, der letztes Jahr schon in Cannes gelaufen war (２つ目の窓 heißt wörtlich ZWEITES FENSTER). Einige von Euch haben vielleicht ihren Film 殯の森 MOGARI NO MORI / DER WALD DER TRAUER gesehen, mit dem sie 2007 den Grand Prix du Jury in Cannes gewann (lief auch auf dem Filmfest Hamburg! Und irgendwann – deutsch synchronisiert – im deutschen Fernsehen, ich weiß nicht mehr auf welchem Sender, aber es war ziemlich spät nachts). Ich war also wie gesagt – viel zu kurz – beim IFFF in Dortmund und verpasste so leider die komplette CIB und eben auch die Preisverleihung im bereits zum 3. Mal stattfindenden Comicwettbewerb, an dem ich vor einigen Wochen teilgenommen hatte – diesmal mit dem Thema Berlin 2055:

Wie soll Berlin in 40 Jahren für Euch aussehen? Was sind eure Zukunftsvisionen oder Ängste? Ist die Stadt voller futuristischer Wolkenkratzer und wir alle fliegen in Autos oder ist Berlin eine Wüste und wir leben wieder in Höhlen? Wie kommunizieren wir miteinander? Was essen wir, wer hat das Sagen?

Neben dem Inhalt war das Format vorgeschrieben: quadratisch, 21 x 21 cm, 1-2 Seiten, Schwarz/Weiss. Teilgenommen haben Profi- und Amateurcomiczeichner/innen. Es gab vier Sorten von Preisen: Buchgutscheine von Reprodukt und Jaja, ein Buchpaket von Grober Unfug und einen eintägigen Comicworkshop in der Comicbibliothek Renate, die an insgesamt 19 Comics vergeben wurden. Und das hier ist meiner, den ich leider erst auf den letzten Drücker kurz vor Wettbewerbsende gezeichnet habe. (Zur Erkärung, vor allem für Nicht-Berliner/innen: abgebildet ist der aktuell geplante Berlin-Brandenburger Flughafen „Willy Brandt“ mit dem markanten Tower im Jahr 2055, und abstrakt zitiert wird ein Aufruf zum Volksentscheid 2014 zur Bewahrung des Tempelhofer Felds (THF-Gesetz), der mit deutlicher Mehrheit angenommen wurde.)

Ich habe übrigens einen Comicworkshop gewonnen, werde also viel lernen können für meinen nächsten Versuch!

Berlin 2055 – Competition by CIB Comic Invasion Berlin

It’s always a good thing for an actress to win awards, but that wasn’t the only reason I was really happy yesterday when I received a notification, telling me: “If you don’t know already: You won one of the prizes of the CIB-Zine-Contest“. Actually I didn’t know it already, since I had not been able to attend the CIB – that’s Comic Ivasion Berlin – on April 18 and 19, as I was in Dortmund that weekend, attending the International Women’s Film Festival. There the competition was won by Japanese director Naomi Kawase and her feature film ２つ目の窓 FUTATSUME NO MADO / STILL THE WATER, which had also run in the Cannes competition last year (２つ目の窓 literally means SECOND WINDOW). Some of you may have seen her film 殯の森 MOGARI NO MORI / THE MOURNING FOREST, which won her the Grand Prix du Jury in Cannes in 2007. So as I said I was – much too short – attending the IFFF in Dortmund and therefore missed the CIB as well the awards ceremony of the comic competition (3rd of its kind) in which I’d participated a few weeks ago. The topic was Berlin 2055:

How should / could Berlin look like for you, 40 years from now on? What are your visions, or fears, for the future? Will the city be full of skyscrapers and we all fly around in cars or is Berlin a desert and we live in caves again? What do we eat, who is in power?

Apart from the content there were regulations on the form of the comics: square, 21 x 21 cm, 1 – 2 pages, black+white. Professionals as well as amateur comic artists participated in the competition. Four types of prizes were awarded to 19 drawings: book vouchers for Reprodukt and Jaja, a book package by Grober Unfug and a one day-comic workshop at the Berlin Comic Library Renate. And this is my contribution, which I unfortunately only drew at the very last moment. (As an explanation to everyone outside of Berlin: I drew the presently planned airport Berlin Brandenburg Flughafen „Willy Brandt“ with its prominent tower. I also abstractly quoted the call-up for the Berlin referendum of 2014 on the conversation of the Tempelhofer Feld (area of another – former – airport) that was accepted with a clear majority.)

By the way, the prize I won is participating in the comic workshop, so I will be able to learn a lot for my next attempt!
