F\u00fcr das deutsche Fernsehen (und auch Kino) werden sehr viele Krimis produziert. Warum das so sein mag, das ist ein anderes Thema. Hier soll es nur um die beliebteste TV-Serie im deutschen Fernsehen gehen, und das hei\u00dft:\u00a0 die mit den h\u00f6chsten Zuschauer\/innen-Zahlen,\u00a0 den Tatort<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fast jeden Sonntag um 20.15 strahlt die ARD eine neue Folge aus, 2012 waren es 34. Es liefen das ganze Jahr \u00fcber nat\u00fcrlich auch eine Reihe von Wiederholungen \u00e4lterer Folgen, z.B. auf den dritten Programmen. Davon haben die Schauspielkolleg\/innen zur Zeit noch wenig, denn es gibt keine Wiederholungsgagen in der ARD, und auch f\u00fcr die Drehbuchleute steht gerade eine ung\u00fcnstigere Regelung zur Diskussion, aber auch das ist ein anderes Thema.<\/span> <\/p>\n

Aktuell gibt es 21 Ermittlungsteams, 19 deutsche, 1 \u00f6sterreichisches und 1 schweizerisches, insgesamt<\/span> 15 Ermittlerinnen<\/strong><\/span> und<\/span> 28 Ermittler<\/span>, in keinem Team eine Frauenmehrheit:\u00a0 “Alle Kommissar\/innen auf einen Blick” gibt es auf der ARD-Seite<\/span>\u00a0 (LINK<\/em>)
\n<\/span><\/a>Zu den festen Ensembles kommen in jedem Tatort naturgem\u00e4\u00df eine Reihe von Episodenrollen hinzu. Ich habe die Besetzungslisten verglichen, bzw. nur die Anzahl der m\u00e4nnlichen und weiblichen Rollen, ohne zwischen Haupt-, Neben-, Episoden- oder Tagesrollen zu unterschieden. Ber\u00fccksichtigt werden die Casts, so wie sie auf der Seite der ARD –<\/span> LINK <\/a><\/em>– aufgef\u00fchrt sind.\"Tatorte<\/a>Auf das Gesamtjahr bezogen ergab sich ein Verh\u00e4ltnis von\u00a01<\/strong><\/span> zu 1,8<\/span>. Also fast doppelt so viele M\u00e4nner- wie Frauenrollen. Woran liegt das? An den Plots? Hm. Der Tatort erz\u00e4hlt Geschichten aus deutschen St\u00e4dten, und da leben fast genauso viele M\u00e4nner wie Frauen. Gut, die Frauen sind im echten Leben nicht so h\u00e4ufig die M\u00f6rderinnen (nur in 5 – 10 % der F\u00e4lle lt. Auskunft der Berliner Polizei, in den Tatorten scheint das wesentlich h\u00e4ufiger vorzukommen), aber es gibt doch auch sonst Frauen. Die Zeugin. Die Nachbarin. Die Taxifahrerin. Die Chefin. Also eine Nachl\u00e4ssigkeit der Drehbuchschreibenden? Oder werden eher m\u00e4nnerzentrierte Plots erz\u00e4hlt?
\nLiegt es auch ein bisschen an der Sprache? Die kleineren Rollen in Drehb\u00fcchern hei\u00dfen manchmal Taxifahrer, Kellner, Journalist. Das halten manche f\u00fcr ,geschlechtsneutrale Bezeichnungen’, aber das sind es nat\u00fcrlich nicht. Manchmal gibt es Caster\/innen, die gegen die Grammatik besetzen, ich habe auch schon einmal eine Journalistin gespielt, die in der alten Drehbuchfassung noch ein Journalist war. Aber dieses Ph\u00e4nomen betrifft nat\u00fcrlich nur die namenlosen Rollen, also nicht die Episodencasts, wie sie in der folgenden Grafik nebeneinander stehen f\u00fcr die 34 Tatorte 2012.\u00a0\u00a0 (Der 13. Tatort 2012 mit 11 weiblichen Rollen spielte in Leipzig und hie\u00df “Kinderland”)<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWomen play 2nd Fiddle in Germany’s No. 1 TV Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

A lot of crime \/ detective \/ police \/ thriller stories are produced for German television (and also the cinema). It might be interesting to look into this a little further, but this is another matter. For now let us just look at the most popular TV-series on German television, and by that I mean the series with the highest audience numbers: the Tatort<\/strong>. (Crime Scene<\/strong>). This is a series that is being produced since the 1970s.
\nNearly every sunday at 8.15 pm a new 90 minutes episode is broadcast by the ARD (the so-called first programme, an association of public broadcasters).2012 there were 34 new episodes, in addition a number of older Tatorte are broadcast throughout the year on various channels. The actresses and actors in them don’t receive “TV repeat wages”, but that is another matter.<\/span>
\nAt the moment there are 21 German crime investigation teams in different towns, as well as 1 Austrian and 1 Swiss team. All in all there are 15 female agents<\/span> <\/strong>\/ police officers and 28 male officers<\/span>. No team has a female majority. Here (LINK<\/em><\/a>) you can have a look at the teams and their hometowns on the official ARD-website.
\nIn addition to the regular cast there are of course a number of episode characters. I have compared the casts of these 34 Tatorts, or rather the number of female and male roles, not differenciating between leads or supporting roles, episode or smaller characters. My reference data base was derived from the ARD-webpage that lists all episodes (LINK<\/em><\/a>).\"Tatorte<\/a>Over the whole year the ratio was 1<\/span><\/strong> to 1,8<\/span> – i.e. nearly twice as many male as female roles. What is the reason for that? The plots? Hm, that’s strange, because the Tatort tells stories happening in German towns, and there of course we find similar numbers of women and men. Okay, in real life women don’t murder as often as they do on the Tatorts, (according to Berlin police that would only happen in approximately 5 to 10 % of the murders), but there are loads of other women\u00a0 running about to be found: the witness, the neighbour, the taxi driver, the boss. So is this just some sort of negligence on the part of the script writers? Or are they basically telling men-centered stories?
\nCould language have something to with this? We have this strange situation in the German language that there are male nouns, but it was quite costumary and probably still is by a great number of people to use the male noun when they want to talk of either male or female whatevers.\u00a0 Just imagine that the word for a male journalist would be journalist and for a female it would be journaliste. So, if in the casting sheet a casting director finds 3 journalists, he or she might read this as 3 male characters. But it could also be that the writer (or writeress for that matter) intended this as the neutral noun. But this muddle might cause an unnatural majority of actors over actresses in the smaller roles as well.
\nAnyway, this should not influence the statistics I have colourfully evaluated in the figure you see above in the German text, that shows the 34 Tatort episodes of 2012 and the number of\u00a0 male and female characters.
