Heute geht es zur Abwechslung nicht um traurige Statistiken, sondern um etwas sehr Witziges und sehr Sch\u00f6nes f\u00fcr\u2019s Herz. Reden wir \u00fcber Mr. Blobby <\/strong>(und gucken vier Episoden seiner Fernsehauftritte an)!<\/strong><\/span>
\n Mr. Blobby ist in Deutschland vermutlich nicht so bekannt, er ist aber eine Ikone der BBC-Fernsehgeschichte. Im BBC Wiki <\/a>wird er und seine Fernsehkarriere ausf\u00fchrlicher dargestellt, daraus ein Zitat:
\n<\/span>Mr. Blobby war eine Figur, dargestellt von Barry Killerby, die in Noel Edmonds Samstagabendsendung \u201eNoel\u2019s House Party\u201c auftrat. Sein volumin\u00f6ser, rosa K\u00f6rper war mit gelben Flecken \u00fcbers\u00e4t. Blobby hatte ein Dauergrinsen und bewegliche Augen, und kommunizierte nur durch das Wort \u201eblobby\u201c mit elektronisch verfremdeter Stimme. Seine Stimmung dr\u00fcckte er \u00fcber Tonlage und Wiederholung aus.
\n<\/span><\/em>Die Mr. Blobby-Geschichte geht noch weiter, er war au\u00dferdem Star einer fiktiven Kindersendung, in der er mit G\u00e4sten alle m\u00f6glichen Berufe vorstellte, u.a. lie\u00df er sich von dem professionellen Rugbyspieler Will Carling Rugby beibringen. Weihnachten 1993 erreichte er mit seinem Song \u201eMr. Blobby\u201c<\/a> die Nummer 1 der britischen Charts, die Single wurde mehr als 1 Millionen mal verkauft.<\/span>
\n Leider habe ich auf meine Anfrage hin von der BBC noch kein offizielles Foto bekommen, deshalb habe ich ihn gemalt. So sieht er in etwa aus:<\/span><\/p>\n

\"MrBlobby\"<\/a>Von Noel Edmonds (in dessen Sendung er auftrat) wurde Mr. Blobby immer ziemlich schlecht behandelt finde ich, hier ein Beispiel. Noel Edmonds will nach New York reisen, Mr. Blobby packt schon und will mit, darf aber nicht: Mr. Blobby <\/a><\/span>
\n Was ich an dieser Szene liebe \u2013 obwohl ich sie nat\u00fcrlich sehr traurig finde\u00a0 \u2013 ist die Hingabe von Mr. Blobby, der sich k\u00f6rperlich voll in seine Emotionen schmei\u00dft. Obwohl er dieses breite Grinsen hat ist seine Traurigkeit zu greifen, auch ohne dass seine Mundwinkel nach unten gehen oder er Grimassen schneidet (das soll aber jetzt kein Pl\u00e4doyer f\u00fcr Botox sein).<\/span>
\n Zum Gl\u00fcck hatte diese Geschichte ein Happy End, Mr. Blobby kam doch nach New York:\u00a0 Mr. Blobby on Noel’s New York House Party<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Ich liebe k\u00f6rperliches Schauspiel, und freue mich \u00fcber jeden Film, der nur mit Hingucken funktioniert, eben weil nicht alles im Text gesagt und beschrieben wird.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Blobby ist nat\u00fcrlich eine Figur aus dem letzten Jahrhundert, als M\u00e4nner noch rosa trugen und sympathische Frauen dick sein durften (seine Herzdame Mrs Blobby<\/a>, ohne dass ihr K\u00f6rperumfang thematisiert wurde. Aber vor allem ist Mr. Blobby richtig cool und Ausschnitte seiner alten Sendungen zu sehen macht (hoffentlich nicht nur mir) richtig gute Laune, so dass ich Mr. Blobby nur allen ans Herz legen kann.

\nAm 23. September 2012 hatte Mr. Blobby einen \u00dcberraschungsauftritt im \u201eBig Fat Quiz of the 90s\u201c (Channel 4), als er am Ende der Sendung drei Zusatzfragen pr\u00e4sentierte. Rateteammitglied\u00a0 Dara \u00d3 Briain <\/a>(Stand Up Comedian und TV-Moderator aus Irland) kommentierte:<\/span>
\n\u201eI\u2019m loving it, I\u2019m loving it! It\u2019s the happiest I\u2019ve ever been in my life! This guy\u2019s a legend.<\/em>\u201c (Ich liebe es! So gl\u00fccklich war ich noch nie in meinem Leben! Dieser Typ ist eine Legende\u201c).

There’s more to Acting than Words and Facials
\n<\/strong>(I know, facials are face treatments, I just didn\u2019t want the title to get too long. I meant Facial Expressions of course.)<\/span><\/p>\n

So today I won\u2019t write about sad statistics, but rather about something very funny and very beautiful. Let\u2019s talk about Mr. Blobby<\/strong><\/span> (and look at four episodes from his TV appearances)!<\/span>
\nMr. Blobby is probably not known in Germany (and most other countries on the globe) but he is an icon of BBC television history. He and his career are described in some detail in the BBC Wiki<\/a>, just a short quote from there:
\nMr. Blobby was a character on Noel Edmonds’ Saturday night variety television show Noel’s House Party, portrayed by Barry Killerby. A bulbous pink figure covered with yellow spots, he sported a permanent toothy grin and jiggling eyes, and communicated only by saying the word “blobby” in an electronically altered voice, expressing his moods through tone of voice and repetition.
\n<\/em>Mr. Blobby\u2019s history goes beyond that, they established him as the star of a (fictituous) children\u2019s programme, where he would try out and learn lots of stuff from celebrities, he was taught a little rugby by professional Will Carling for example. His single \u201eMr. Blobby<\/a>\u201c sold over 1 million copies and topped the UK charts at Christmas 1993.<\/span>
\nUnfortunately I have not received an official photo of Mr. Blobby from the BBC so far, therefore I had to draw him. This is what he looks like (a bit):<\/span>
\n\"MrBlobby\"<\/a>Noel Edmonds (host of the show that Mr. Blobby appeared in) would always treat him very badly I would say, here\u2019s an example: Noel Edmons was planning on going to New York, Mr. Blobby started packing to go along, but was not allowed to do so:\u00a0 Mr. Blobby<\/a>
\nWhat I love about this scene \u2013 although it is a very sad one of course \u2013 is how Mr. Blobby is surrendering physically to his emotions. Despite his wide grin his sadness can be grasped, without the corners of his mouth turning down or him pulling faces (I am certainly not advocating the use of Botox though!).<\/span>
\nFortunately this story had a happy ending, Mr. Blobby did go to New York eventually:\u00a0 Mr. Blobby on Noel’s New York House Party<\/a>

I love physical acting and I am very happy for each film that only works when you watch it, because not everything is being said or described in the dialogue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Blobby of course is a character from the last century, when men wore pink and likeable women were allowed to be overweight on screen without that being a topic (look at the queen of his heart Mrs Blobby<\/a>). But most of all Mr. Blobby is a really cool chap and it really lifts your spirits watching scenes from his old shows. (well, mine at least). I strongly and warmly recommend getting to know Mr. Blobby to everyone.

\nOn September 23rd 2012 Mr. Blobby was surprise guest in \u201eThe Big Fat Quiz of the 90s\u201c (Channel 4), presenting three bonus questions in the end.
