Die insgesamt 79 aktuellen,\u00a0 internationalen Filmproduktionen sind \u00fcberwiegend Spielfilme, in Locarno und Venedig liefen jeweils zwei Dokumentarfilme im Wettbewerb, und in Venedig au\u00dferdem der Animationsfilm <strong>Kaze Tachinu<\/strong> von <em>Hayao Miyazaki<\/em>. In Venedig gewann erstmals ein Dokumentarfilm den Goldenen L\u00f6wen: <strong>Sacro GRA<\/strong> (Regie: <em>Gianfranco Rosi<\/em>).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color:#336699;\">Wie leider zu erwarten gibt es bei allen vier Wettbewerben in den 6 Gewerken Regie, Drehbuch, Produzent\/in, Kamera, Ton und Schnitt einen M\u00e4nneranteil von mehr als 50 %, wobei die Festivals hierbei deutliche Unterschiede aufweisen. In keinem Wettbewerb erhielt der Film einer Regisseurin die Auszeichnung als Bester Film oder f\u00fcr die Beste Regie, kein Preis ging an eine Drehbuchautorin oder Kamerafrau.<br \/>\nIn der Grafik sind noch zwei weitere Werte erfasst: der <em>Mittelwert<\/em> aus diesen 4 Filmfestivals f\u00fcr jedes Gewerk, das ist die Raute mit der gestrichelten Linie, und der <em>Deutscher Filmpreis<\/em>, d.h. der 6-Gewerke-Check f\u00fcr die 17 Filme, die in den Nominierungen zum Deutschen Filmpreis 2013 vorkamen, der vermutlich am ehesten vergleichbarer Wert aus Deutschland f\u00fcr kulturell bedeutsame Filme (ausf\u00fchrlicher beschrieben hier: <a title=\"Kunst oder Kommerz, wo arbeiten die Filmfrauen? Teil 1 Die Gewerke \u2013 \u201cGive me Art, Give me Money\u201d Female Filmmakers Part 1: Behind the\u00a0Camera\" href=\"http:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/2013\/06\/10\/kunst-kommerz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kunst oder Kommerz, wo arbeiten die Filmfrauen?<\/a>). Bei Regie (30 %) und Schnitt (60 %) sieht es deutlich <!--more  [Weiterlesen - Read On] --> besser aus, hingegen bei Kamera (4 %) und Ton (0 %) noch schlechter als bei den Filmfestivals im Mittelwert.<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/schspin.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/09\/4festivals6gc_dt3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1411 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/schspin.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/09\/4festivals6gc_dt3.jpg\" alt=\"4Festivals6GC_dt\" width=\"611\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/4festivals6gc_dt3.jpg 704w, https:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/4festivals6gc_dt3-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color:#336699;\">Die Datenerfassung f\u00fcr solche Untersuchungen zeigt regelm\u00e4\u00dfig, dass Statistiken kein trockenes und einsames Gesch\u00e4ft sind. Allein schon die Daten der Hauptverantwortlichen f\u00fcr 6 Gewerke herauszufinden war eine Herausforderung, denn leider stehen sie nie vollst\u00e4ndig auf den Festivalwebseiten oder bei IMDB &amp; Co. Im\u00a0 zweiten Schritt die Namen als weibliche oder m\u00e4nnliche Filmschaffende einzuordnen klappt meist auch nur nach Mailwechseln mit Fesitvals, Fachpresse, Produktions- und PR-Firmen sowie Botschaften bzw.\u00a0 Kulturinstituten. Aber am Ende hat es auch in diesem Fall wieder einmal geklappt. Vielen Dank an alle, die halfen!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#336699;\">Die Grafik zeigt f\u00fcr alle vier Festivals die Gewerke mit dem deutlichstem M\u00e4nner\u00fcbergewicht, Kamera und Ton. Hier betr\u00e4gt der durchschnittliche Frauenanteil 8,75 bzw. 8,5 %. Kein Berlinale-Wettbewerbsbeitrag wurde von einer Kamerafrau gefilmt, kein Film in Venedig hatte eine Tonmeisterin im Stab.<br \/>\nAlle anderen Werte sind ,immerhin\u2019 zweistellig, Regie 11,75 % Frauen (sehr viel Luft nach oben! Am meisten im Cannes Wettbewerb, dort nur 5 % Regisseurinnen), Drehbuch 22,5 %, \u00a0Produzentinnen 26 %, und 30 % Frauenanteil im Schnittbereich.<br \/>\nDie Berlinale ist das Festival mit dem niedrigsten absoluten Gesamtwert, 85 Frauen arbeiteten in verantwortlicher Position in den 6 Gewerken (in 19 Filmen). Der Wert f\u00fcr Venedig ist 96 und f\u00fcr Cannes und Locarno 107 bzw. 142 (f\u00fcr jeweils 20 Filme).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#336699;\">Und zum Schluss noch einmal die Frage: ist es \u00fcberhaupt wichtig, wer hinter der Kamera arbeitet, Frauen oder M\u00e4nner? Filmteams sind ja per se immer eine bunte Mischung, und solange es klassische Frauengewerke wie Maske, Kost\u00fcm, Produktionssekretariat und Buchhaltung gibt wird der Film kein M\u00e4nnergesch\u00e4ft, werden keine Filme, die nur aus m\u00e4nnlichem Blickwinkel M\u00e4nnergeschichten erz\u00e4hlen, produziert. Aber stimmt das? Nein, eben nicht, denn die Gewerke werden nat\u00fcrlich unterschiedlich gewichtet, in der Au\u00dfenwahrnehmung und auch in dem Einfluss auf Inhalt und Erz\u00e4hlweise. Und deshalb ist ein Blick auf die Gewerke Regie und Drehbuch, aber auch auf Kamera und Schnitt nicht unwichtig. Und diese Werte den Inhalten und den Besetzungslisten gegen\u00fcberzustellen ist ein n\u00e4chster Schritt. Aber das ist ein anderes Thema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><a name=\"english\"><\/a><b>English Version<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">Crew Count for 4 Film Festivals<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">Today let\u2019s have a look at the share of women in 6 crew departments of four major european film festivals in 2013: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.berlinale.de\/de\/archiv\/jahresarchive\/2013\/02_programm_2013\/02_programm_2013.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin <\/a>(D), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/archives\/inCompetition.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Festival de Cannes <\/a>(F), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pardolive.ch\/en\/catalogue\/programme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Festival del Film Locarno <\/a>(CH) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labiennale.org\/en\/cinema\/70th-festival\/line-up\/off-sel\/venezia70\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mostra internazionale d&#8217;arte cinematografica di Venezia <\/a>(I).<\/span> <span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">They showed a total of 79 recent international feature films, &#8211; with the exception of two documentaries each in the competitions of Locarno and Venice. Furthermore, Venice also included the animated film <strong>Kaze Tachinu<\/strong> by <em>Hayao Miyazaki<\/em>. In Venice, it was also the first time that a documentary won the golden Lion: <strong>Sacro GRA<\/strong> (director <em>Giancfranco Rosi<\/em>).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\"> As was unfortunately to be expected, for all four competitions the share of men in the 6 departments direction, script, producer, camera, sound and editing was more than 50 %, with clear differences between these four groups. Not one competition saw the film by a female director win the price for best picture of best director, no price went to a woman who wrote a script or was head of cinematography.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\"> The figure includes two other sets of data: the mean value of the four festivals for each division \u00a0&#8211; that is the grey diamond with the broken line \u2013 and the German Film Award, i.e. the 6-divisions-check for the 17 films that were included in the nominations for all categories of the German Film Awards, and which is a group of German films most likely to be defined as culturally important films and thus comparable to festival competition entries (for a more detailed analysis refer to<\/span> <a title=\"Kunst oder Kommerz, wo arbeiten die Filmfrauen? Teil 1 Die Gewerke \u2013 \u201cGive me Art, Give me Money\u201d Female Filmmakers Part 1: Behind the\u00a0Camera\" href=\"http:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/2013\/06\/10\/kunst-kommerz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cGive me Art, Give me Money\u201d Female Filmmakers Part 1<\/a>). <span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">Here the share of women in directing (30 %) and editing (60 %) are above the festival mean values, on the other hand cinematography (4 %) and sound (0 %) are even lower.<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/schspin.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/10\/4festivals6gc_en.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1506 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/schspin.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/10\/4festivals6gc_en.jpg\" alt=\"4Festivals6GC_en\" width=\"611\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/4festivals6gc_en.jpg 704w, https:\/\/schspin.stieve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/4festivals6gc_en-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">Collecting data for these sorts of investigations regularly go to prove that statistics are not a dry and lonely business. Finding the names of the heads of department in the 6 divisions is a challenge by itself, since they are very rarely to be found as a whole on the websites of the festivals or in the\u00a0 IMDB and the likes. The second step is to assign the names to female or male filmmakers, which is hardly possible without consulting festivals, media, production and PR companies as well as embassies and cultural institutes. But once again it all worked out in the end, so a big thank you to all that helped.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">From the figure for the four festivals we get cinematography and sound as the departments dominated strongest by male filmmakers. The average share of women is only 8,75 and 8,5 % respectively. No competition entry in Berlin was filmed by a camerawoman, no film in the Vienna competition had a woman heading the sound department.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">All other data are at least double figures, directing: 11,75 % women (way to go! Most so Cannes, in the competition women only were 5 % of all directors), script 22,5 %, producers 26 % females, and editing with a 30 % share of women as mean value for the 4 festivals.<br \/>\nBerlin International Film Festival has the lowest absolute value: 85 women worked in positions of responsibility in the 6 departments (in 19 films). In Venice competition films I counted 96 women, and for Cannes and Locarno 107 and 142 (for 20 films each).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#4d4d4d;\">Finally let\u2019s ask once again: does it really matter who is working behind the camera, women or men? Film teams by nature are a colourful mix, and as long as we find departments that are conventionally in the hands of women, like make-up and costume, the production office and accounting then the film business is not all-male and no films that only tell stories about men from a man\u2019s point of view are being told. But is that really true? No, actually it is not, because not all departments have the same weight in the perception from the outside world or \u00a0in their influence on plot and story telling modes. And therefore is does make perfect sense to look at departments like directing and script writing, and furthermore cinematography and editing.
