Spitzen: Der Deutsche B\u00fchnenverein und die Akademie der K\u00fcnste haben erstmals eine Pr\u00e4sidentin gew\u00e4hlt, die FIFA ein neues Exekutivkomitee und einen r\u00fccktretenden Pr\u00e4sidenten, und der BFFS und die Commerzbank hadern mit den eigenen Vorgaben.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wollen wir sie endlich reinlassen?
\n<\/span><\/h1>\n

\u00dcber die Genderrepr\u00e4sentanz in Vorst\u00e4nden von Filmverb\u00e4nden habe ich ja bereits drei mal gebloggt (Teil 1: Die Verb\u00e4nde<\/a>, Teil 2: Der BVR<\/a>, Teil 3: Der BFFS<\/a>). Und auch in anderen gesellschaftlichen, z.B. politischen und wirtschaftlichen, Zusammenh\u00e4ngen ist aktuell die Vertretung von Frauen und M\u00e4nnern<\/strong> in F\u00fchrungsgremien bei uns und auch international immer wieder Thema. Frauenquoten oder Selbstverpflichtungen f\u00fcr Aufsichtsr\u00e4te und parit\u00e4tisch zu besetzende Kandidat\/innenlisten sind Anzeichen daf\u00fcr, dass der Glaube an das regelt sich schon von alleine<\/em> oder es ist doch egal<\/em> langsam schwindet.<\/span>
\nIch werfe heute einen Blick auf drei Wahlen der vergangenen Woche. In zwei F\u00e4llen aus dem Kultursektor wurden erstmals seit \u00fcber 150 bzw. \u00fcber 300 Jahren Frauen<\/span> an die Spitze gew\u00e4hlt<\/strong>, – bei weiterhin m\u00e4nnlich dominierten Spitzengremien. Wir d\u00fcrfen gespannt sein ob sich etwas ver\u00e4ndert in den jeweiligen Organisationen, ihrer Politik und ihrer Kunst. Die dritte Wahl fand in einem Verband statt, dessen Exekutivorgan per Satzung einen Frauenanteil von 4 %<\/span><\/strong> hat<\/strong>, und der die Interessen von M\u00e4nnern und Frauen seit Gr\u00fcndung sehr unterschiedlich vertritt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Der Deutsche B\u00fchnenverein<\/span><\/h3>\n

Am 29. Mai w\u00e4hlte der 1846 in Oldenburg gegr\u00fcndete Deutsche B\u00fchnenverein<\/strong> mit gro\u00dfer Mehrheit eine neue Pr\u00e4sidentin: die Hamburger Kultursenatorin Prof. Barbara Kisseler<\/span> <\/strong>(65) wurde f\u00fcr vier Jahre gew\u00e4hlt und ist als Nachfolgerin von Prof. Klaus Zehelein<\/span> (74) und nach 22 M\u00e4nnern<\/span> die erste Frau an der Spitze.<\/span><\/p>\n

Der Deutsche B\u00fchnenverein<\/a> mit Sitz in K\u00f6ln vertritt 215Theater (33 Staats-, 85 Stadt-, 75 Privattheater, 24 Landesb\u00fchnen) und 31 selbstst\u00e4ndige Sinfonieorchester (7 Staats-, 23 St\u00e4dtische und 1 Landesorchester).
\nNeben der Pr\u00e4sidentin gibt es noch einen Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrenden Direktor, das ist seit 1992 Rechtsanwalt und Publizist Rolf Bolwin<\/span> (65), und das Pr\u00e4sidium, dem die Vorsitzenden der Gruppen angeh\u00f6ren:<\/span><\/p>\n

Ein Gro\u00dfteil der Theater und Orchester wird vermutlich unter der Leitung von M\u00e4nnern<\/span> stehen und die Schauspiel-, Oper- und Tanzensembles und Orchester werden auch ein M\u00e4nner\u00fcbergewicht<\/span> haben. Und auf den Spielpl\u00e4nen stehen mehrheitlichst St\u00fccke von M\u00e4nnern<\/span>. Das wird sich nicht von heute auf morgen \u00e4ndern. Aber vielleicht wird unter einer Pr\u00e4sidentin<\/span> <\/strong>endlich einmal dar\u00fcber gesprochen ob diese Normalit\u00e4t im 21. Jahrhundert immer noch das ist, was w\u00fcnschenswert ist.<\/span>
\nIn diesem Zusammenhang der Hinweis auf einen Beitrag von Schauspieler \/ Autor Daniel Ris<\/strong>, der am 2.6. unter dem Titel \u201eDeutsches Theatersystem: In der Spirale des Gagendumpings<\/a>\u201c bei Deutschlandradio Kultur sagte:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Konkret gilt beispielsweise seit 2006 das allgemeine Gleichbehandlungsgesetz. Aber an vielen Theatern verdienen gleich qualifizierte Mitarbeiterinnen, auf und hinter der B\u00fchne, immer noch deutlich weniger als ihre m\u00e4nnlichen Kollegen. Der Markt gibt es ja her. In vielen Branchen sind Teilhabe, Solidarit\u00e4t und Gleichberechtigung heute ganz selbstverst\u00e4ndliche Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be der Unternehmenskultur. Ausgerechnet im \u201cKultur-Unternehmen\u201c haben diese Werte anscheinend oft gar keinen Platz.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Die Akademie der K\u00fcnste<\/span><\/h3>\n

Am 30. Mai w\u00e4hlte die Deutsche Akademie der K\u00fcnste<\/strong> auf ihrer Mitgliederversammlung in Berlin eine neue Pr\u00e4sidentin: die Filmregisseurin, Drehbuchautorin und Produzentin Jeanine Meerapfel<\/span> <\/strong>(knapp 72) wurde f\u00fcr drei Jahre gew\u00e4hlt und ist als Nachfolgerin von Klaus Staeck<\/span> (77) und ganz vielen M\u00e4nnern seit 1696 die erste Frau an der Spitze.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mit den Vorg\u00e4ngern ist das etwas schwierig; seit 1918 (Preu\u00dfische Akademie der K\u00fcnste) mit der Zweigleisigkeit von 1950 bis 1993 (AdK West und Ost) und der vereinten Akademie der K\u00fcnste ab 1993 waren 20 M\u00e4nner<\/span> Pr\u00e4sidenten, aber: \u201eGegr\u00fcndet wurde die Akademie der K\u00fcnste 1696 von Kurf\u00fcrst Friedrich III., dem sp\u00e4teren preu\u00dfischen K\u00f6nig Friedrich I.. Als K\u00fcnstlergemeinschaft mit repr\u00e4sentativen und beratenden Aufgaben waren ihre Vorbilder die Akademien in Rom und Paris<\/em>.\u201c (Quelle: Akademie der K\u00fcnste) \u2013 insofern waren da noch viel mehr F\u00fchrungsm\u00e4nner.
\nNeben der neuen Pr\u00e4sidentin gibt es auch eine neue Vizepr\u00e4sidentin, die Schriftstellerin \/ Theaterautorin Kathrin R\u00f6ggla<\/span> <\/strong>(knapp 44), und einen Senat, in dem die sechs Sektionen der Akademie vertreten sind.<\/span>
\n(Meerapfel<\/strong> und R\u00f6ggla<\/strong> haben \u00fcbrigens beide am 14. Juni Geburtstag, deshalb das \u201eknapp\u201c bei den Altersangaben.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Senat<\/a>

Senat der Akademie der K\u00fcnste<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

Die Akademie der K\u00fcnste kann maximal 500 Mitglieder haben, aktuell (Mai 2015) sind es 404 Mitglieder, diese werden von den Sektionen der Akademie benannt, von der Mitgliederversammlung in geheimer Wahl gew\u00e4hlt und vom Pr\u00e4sidenten bzw. ab jetzt: der Pr\u00e4sidentin berufen.<\/span>
\nDer Frauenanteil<\/span> unter den 404 Mitgliedern betr\u00e4gt<\/strong> 22 %<\/span><\/strong>. Und wenn das System so bleibt wird er auch nie auf 50 % steigen, denn dazu m\u00fcssten auf Jahrzehnte hinaus nur Frauen berufen werden, und das kann es ja auch nicht sein. Das hei\u00dft aber gleichzeitig, dass die Veranstaltungen der Akademie weiterhin st\u00e4rker m\u00e4nner- als frauenzentriert bleiben werden.<\/span>
\nTrotzdem d\u00fcrfen wir mit Spannung beobachten, ob unter der ersten Pr\u00e4sidentin<\/span><\/strong>, f\u00fcr die sich Klaus Staeck<\/strong> ausdr\u00fccklich ausgesprochen hatte, Kunst von Frauen st\u00e4rker in den Blickpunkt der Akademieveranstaltungen ger\u00fcckt wird.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Diese beiden Meldungen wurden schnell von einer dritten\u00a0 Pr\u00e4sidentschaftswahl aus den Schlagzeilen verdr\u00e4ngt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Die FIFA – der Weltfu\u00dfballverband
\n<\/span><\/h3>\n

Die FIFA ist neben vielem anderen, das man im Moment \u00fcber sie sagen kann, ein Zusammenschluss von 209 nationalen Fu\u00dfballverb\u00e4nden und richtet u.a. die WMs der M\u00e4nner und Frauen aus. Gerade tagte das h\u00f6chste Entscheidungsgremium, der Kongress, am 29. Mai wurde der Schweizer Sepp Blatter<\/span> (79) als Pr\u00e4sident wiedergew\u00e4hlt (und k\u00fcndigte ein paar Tage darauf seinen R\u00fccktritt an), somit wird der Verband seit 111 Jahren durchgehend von M\u00e4nnern geleitet<\/strong>. Blatter ist seit 1998 FIFA-Pr\u00e4sident, zuvor war er 17 Jahre FIFA-Generalsekret\u00e4r.
\nIm Kongress sitzen alle Nationalverb\u00e4nde, dann gibt es noch das Exekutivkomitee, in dem die Kontinentalverb\u00e4nde – allerdings nicht entsprechend ihrer Mitgliederst\u00e4rken (Nationalverb\u00e4ndeanzahl) – vertreten sind. Das legen die FIFA-Statuten<\/a> fest, und ebenso, dass im Exekutivkomitee eine (1) Frau<\/span><\/strong> sitzt, neben 24 M\u00e4nnern<\/span>. Aktuell ist es Lydia Nsekera<\/span> <\/strong>aus Burundi, die 2012 als erste Frau in das Gremium gew\u00e4hlt wurde.
\nWas noch auff\u00e4llt, wenn wir die Grafiken vergleichen: Europa ist im Exekutivkomitee \u00fcberproportional vertreten. Auch interessant: alle 9 FIFA-Generalsekret\u00e4re, die es seit 1904 gab, sind europ\u00e4ische M\u00e4nner, und 7 der 8 FIFA-Pr\u00e4sidenten ebenso<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Fifa_Kongress\"\"Fifa_Exekutiv\"<\/a>Gestern, am 6. Juni, begann die FIFA Fu\u00dfballweltmeisterschaft in Kanada.<\/strong> Wie viele wissen davon? Wie gro\u00df sind die Werbekampagnen seitens der FIFA und der angeschlossenen Kontinental- und Nationalverb\u00e4nde – zumindest derjenigen, in denen Frauen und M\u00e4dchen nicht verboten ist, Fu\u00dfball zu spielen? Hier in Deutschland kommt davon sehr wenig an. Ich mache mir aktuell die M\u00fche, in Zeitungskiosken nach WM-Sammelbildern f\u00fcr mein Panini-Sammelalbum zu fragen. In den meisten F\u00e4llen h\u00f6re ich \u201edie WM ist doch erst 2018<\/em>\u201c. Nur 1 von 5 Kiosken in meinem Viertel verkauft die Sammelbilder, in der \u00fcbrigen Stadt sieht es auch nicht unbedingt besser aus.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Panini<\/a>Was tut die FIFA f\u00fcr die Frauen?<\/strong> Sie l\u00e4sst sie ihre WM auf Kunstrasenpl\u00e4tzen spielen, die ein gr\u00f6\u00dferes Verletzungsrisiko mit sich bringen. Sie schreibt vor, dass sich alle Spielerinnen einem Geschlechtstest unterziehen m\u00fcssen. Von Sepp Blatter<\/strong>, dem noch amtierenden FIFA-Pr\u00e4sidenten, stammte vor Jahren der (nicht umgesetzte) Vorschlag, Frauenfu\u00dfball attraktiver zu machen, indem die Spielerinnen\u00a0 knappere Hosen und engere Trikots tragen sollten.
\nWie soll sich an an der stark benachteiligten Situation von Frauenfu\u00dfball<\/strong> etwas \u00e4ndern, an den schlechteren Bedingungen, den deutlich niedrigeren Siegpr\u00e4mieren, der Nachwuchsf\u00f6rderung, wenn in den Entscheidungsgremien Frauen kaum vertreten sind, weder in der FIFA noch sonst wo? Nehmen wir den Europ\u00e4ischen Verband, die UEFA. Dessen Exekutivkomitee ist mit 16 M\u00e4nnern<\/span> und 1 Frau<\/span><\/strong> besetzt. Im Pr\u00e4sidium des DFB, also des deutschen Verbandes f\u00fcr M\u00e4nner- und Frauenfu\u00dfball, sitzen 15 M\u00e4nner<\/span> und 1 Frau<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span>
\nIch habe ja diesen Text mit dem B\u00fchnenverein und der Akademie der K\u00fcnste begonnen, deren unteren Ebenen auch sehr m\u00e4nnerlastig sind. Nur dort stehen jetzt Frauen an der Spitze. Was w\u00e4re, wenn die neue FIFA-Pr\u00e4sidentin eine ehemalige Fu\u00dfballspielerin w\u00fcrde<\/strong>, d.h. eine engagierte Vertreterin des Frauenfu\u00dfballs ? Was w\u00e4re, wenn in der UEFA oder im DFB eine Frau an der Spitze s\u00e4\u00dfe? In den anderen Nationalverb\u00e4nden? W\u00fcrde das zu einer Akzeptanz von Frauenfu\u00dfball, der in vielen L\u00e4ndern noch verboten ist, beitragen? (Der DFB hob sein Verbot erst am 31.10.1970 auf) Gleicher Lohn f\u00fcr gleiche Arbeit – w\u00fcrden die Siegpr\u00e4mien an die der M\u00e4nner angeglichen? (1989 bekamen die Spielerinnen der deutschen Nationalelf als Siegpr\u00e4mie f\u00fcr den EM-Titel noch ein Kaffeeservice – 1b-Ware von Villeroy & Boch. Und auch heute noch liegen die Teilnahme- und Siegpr\u00e4mien f\u00fcr Wettbewerbe der Frauen- und M\u00e4nner-Nationalteams weit auseinander).
\nEine weitere Pr\u00e4sidentin im Fu\u00dfball wird hoffentlich ab sofort bei der italienischen Amateurliga eingesetzt. Der Vorg\u00e4nger, Felice Belloli<\/strong>, wurde gerade entlassen, nachdem er seine Ank\u00fcndigung, die F\u00f6rdermittel f\u00fcr den Frauenfu\u00dfball zu reduzieren, erg\u00e4nzt hatte mit: \u201ees reicht jetzt mit dem Geld f\u00fcr diese paar Lesben<\/em>\u201c.\u00a0 (Quelle: S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung Print, 22.5.15)

N\u00e4chstes Mal werfen wir dann einen Blick auf die Gender- und Altersverteilung im Kardinalskollegium und der R\u00f6mischen Kurie. (kleiner Scherz)
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Commerzbank
\n<\/span><\/h3>\n

Wir erinnern uns, dass im M\u00e4rz die Koalitionsregierung eine 30 %-Genderquote<\/strong> f\u00fcr die Aufsichtsr\u00e4te von 110 Top-Unternehmen beschloss. F\u00fcr die Vorst\u00e4nde der Unternehmen wurde auf Freiwilligkeit und Selbstverpflchtung<\/strong> gesetzt, d.h. per Gesetz werden Konzerne verpflichtet, selbst Frauenanteile f\u00fcr ihre obersten beiden F\u00fchrungsebenen unter dem Vorstand als Ziel zu definieren und nach und nach auch zu erreichen.<\/span>
\nAm 3.6. schreibt Manfred K\u00f6hler<\/strong> in der FAZ (Frauenquoten von 2014 f\u00fcr 2017<\/a>):<\/span><\/p>\n

Wie (Commerzbank)-Personalvorstand Frank Annuscheit<\/strong> in einem Interview f\u00fcr das Intranet der Bank erl\u00e4utert, wird das Kreditinstitut hingegen f\u00fcr diese beiden Ebenen – das sind die Bereichsvorst\u00e4nde und Bereichsleiter – als Zielmarke f\u00fcr 2017 schlicht die schon Ende 2014 erreichten Quoten in H\u00f6he von 9<\/span><\/strong> und 15 %<\/strong><\/span> angeben.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Das Ziel ist also einfach, dass es nicht noch weniger wird?<\/span><\/p>\n

Der BFFS – Bundesverband Schauspiel
\n<\/span><\/h3>\n

Vor einem Jahr wurde auf der j\u00e4hrlichen Mitgliederversammlung des BFFS f\u00fcr vier Jahre ein neuer Vorstand gew\u00e4hlt, bzw. der alte best\u00e4tigt. Dieser bestand aus 6 M\u00e4nnern<\/span> und 1 Frau<\/span><\/strong>. Einer davon, Martin May<\/span>, trat Ende des Jahres von seinem Vorstandsposten zur\u00fcck (Erkl\u00e4rung<\/a>):<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Aus privaten Gr\u00fcnden finde ich nicht mehr die n\u00f6tige Zeit f\u00fcr die Aufgaben im Vorstand des Bundesverband Schauspiel und lege deshalb mit heutigem Datum mein Amt nieder. (…)<\/span><\/em>
\nIch w\u00fcrde mich freuen, wenn der von mir ger\u00e4umte Platz im Vorstand mit einer Frau besetzt werden w\u00fcrde<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Noch zwei Monate sp\u00e4ter hie\u00df es von Vorstandsseite, dass eine Nachfolgerin gesucht wird<\/strong>. Dazu kamen Ger\u00fcchte unter Mitgliedern, dass vielleicht sogar eine zus\u00e4tzliche Frau f\u00fcr die Vorstandsarbeit gew\u00e4hlt w\u00fcrde, dann w\u00e4re es 3 Frauen<\/span> <\/strong>und 5 M\u00e4nner<\/span>. Zwar noch nicht das 50<\/span><\/strong>:50<\/span> Verh\u00e4ltnis, das unter den Mitgliedern und in der Berufsgruppe (und in der Gesellschaft) herrscht, aber schon mal besser als jetzt, wo es nur eine Frau gibt.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Statistisches<\/a>

Statistisches Gedankenspiel, Vorstand BFFS<\/p><\/div>\n

30 %<\/strong> gilt als Wert, ab dem eine Minderheit \u00fcberhaupt erst etwas bewirken kann, entsprechend h\u00e4ufig findet sich bei Quotendiskussionen dieser Mindestwert, bei den Aufsichtsr\u00e4ten beispielsweise, aber auch bei den Forderungen von Pro Quote Medien<\/a> \u201eWir fordern eine verbindliche Frauenquote von 30 %<\/span> <\/strong>auf allen F\u00fchrungsebenen bis 2017 – in allen Print- und Onlinemedien, TV und Radio<\/em>.\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

Die n\u00e4chste BFFS-Mitgliederversammlung findet Ende Juni in M\u00fcnchen statt. \u00dcberraschenderweise steht eine Nachwahl f\u00fcr den Vorstand nicht auf der Tagesordnung.
\nSollte auf der Mitgliederversammlung keine Nachr\u00fcckerin f\u00fcr den zur\u00fcckgetretenen Martin May<\/strong> gew\u00e4hlt werden, erh\u00f6ht sich nat\u00fcrlich automatisch der Frauenanteil im Vorstand<\/strong> von alleine, von 14,3 auf 16,7 %.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\nIch kann mir aber beim besten Willen<\/strong> (oder muss es hei\u00dfen: beim schlechtesten Willen?) nicht vorstellen, dass der BFFS so anachronistisch ist und das erdr\u00fcckende M\u00e4nner\u00fcbergewicht im Vorstand beibehalten will<\/strong>.<\/span>
\nEine angemessene Repr\u00e4sentanz von Frauen und der Kampf f\u00fcr ihre Gleichberechtigung in unserer Branche h\u00e4ngen zusammen<\/span>. Das soll nicht hei\u00dfen, dass nur Frauen oder Frauen per se f\u00fcr die Gleichberechtigung der Geschlechter k\u00e4mpfen und M\u00e4nner dies nicht tun.<\/span>
\nAber \u2013 und da nehmen wir einfach das Beispiel aus dem Regiebereich: in den seltensten F\u00e4llen stammen die Initiativen von M\u00e4nnern. Dass der Bundesverband Regie<\/strong> einen Diversit\u00e4tsbericht<\/strong> verfasst hat, wurde von der Mitgliederversammlung mit gro\u00dfer Mehrheit beschlossen. Aber die Idee stammte nicht von Regisseuren, denen die Problematik vielleicht gar nicht so bewusst ist. Auch Pro Quote Regie<\/strong> wurde als Zusammenschluss von Frauen gestartet.
\nUmgekehrt wird vom BFFS \u2013 mit einem M\u00e4nneranteil von \u00fcber 80 %\u00a0 im Vorstand<\/span> – eher wenig Genderpolitik betrieben, werden schlechtere Arbeitsbedingungen von Schauspielerinnen nicht \u00f6ffentlich thematisiert. Auch wenn es gilt, Stellen und Posten<\/strong> zu besetzen (das macht der Vorstand), f\u00e4llt die Wahl eher selten auf Frauen. Der Vorstand hat 2 M\u00e4nner<\/span> als Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer (\u201egesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrende Justiziare<\/em>\u201c), und 3 M\u00e4nner<\/span> als Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer f\u00fcr die Deutsche Schauspielkasse eingesetzt, und 2 M\u00e4nner<\/span> in den Beirat berufen. Dass es au\u00dferhalb des Verbands qualifizierte Frauen f\u00fcr diese Aufgaben gibt ist klar, und intern? Der BFFS hat ungef\u00e4hr 2.600 Mitglieder, davon sind die H\u00e4lfte Frauen<\/span><\/strong>. Und darunter sollte es keine geben, die – gemeinsam mit 1, 2, 3 anderen Frauen – in einem gemischten Vorstand arbeiten w\u00fcrden? Hm. Vielleicht hat der Vorstand einfach nur falsch gesucht, und zu wenige gefragt.<\/span> Aber auch das kann ich mir nicht vorstellen, denn die Vorstandsm\u00e4nner haben immer wieder betont, wie wichtig es ihnen ist, dass mehr Frauen im Vorstand mitarbeiten.<\/span>
\nAlso vermute ich, dass sie die Mitgliederversammlung mit ein oder zwei Vorstandskandidatinnen \u00fcberraschen werden<\/strong> (wie das dann formal geht ist eine Frage an die Satzung, aber die ist ein Thema f\u00fcr einen anderen Tag). Es kann doch nicht sein, dass ausgerechnet unser Verband den Frauenanteil an der Spitze nicht erh\u00f6ht. Wo doch selbst der Senat der Akademie der K\u00fcnste mittlerweile einen Frauenanteil von 35,7 %<\/span><\/strong> hat, und das bei nur 22 % Frauen<\/span> <\/strong>unter den Mitgliedern. Und unter den BFFS-Mitgliedern gibt es richtig fitte und f\u00e4hige Leute, Frauen und M\u00e4nner, die die Verbandsarbeit vorw\u00e4rts bringen k\u00f6nnen.

Top Women: The German Stage Association \/ Deutscher B\u00fchnenverein and the Academy of Arts now for the first time have female presidents, the FIFA has a new executive committee and a resigning president, and the BFFS and the Commerzbank have problems with their own targets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do me a Favour, Open the Door, Let ’em in!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

I already wrote about gender representation in the executive boards of film associations on three occasions (part 1: the associations<\/a>, part 2: the directors\u2019 union<\/a>, part 3: the acting union<\/a>).<\/span>
\nRepresentation of women and men<\/strong> is also a topic in other social, political and economical contexts in Germany and internationally. Quotas for women or voluntary commitments for governing bodies of companies and lists of candidates that are set up based on parity are signs that less people seem to believe in somehow things will sort out or it does not really matter.<\/span>
\nToday\u2019s focus is on three presidential elections that took place last week. On two occassions women<\/span> were elected to to the top for the first time in over 150 and over 300 years<\/strong>, – in else still male dominated bodies. It will be interesting to observe what changes in these organizations, in their politics and in their art. The third election happened in an organization that has by its statutes an executive body with a share of women of 4 %<\/span><\/strong>, and that is dealing with the interests of women and men quite differently.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The German Stage Association \/ Deutscher B\u00fchnenverein<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 29 the German Stage Association<\/strong> (founded in Oldenburg in 1846) elected a new president: Hamburg\u2019s minister for cultural affairs Prof. Barbara Kisseler<\/span> <\/strong>(65) follows Prof. Klaus Zehelein<\/span> (74) and 21 other men<\/span>, and thus is the first woman at the very top of the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

The German Stage Association which is based in Cologne represents 215 theatres and 31 independant orchestras. Apart from the president there is an executive director and an executive committee consisting of the heads of the different theatre groups within the association.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"DeutscherBuehenverein_en\"<\/a>We can assume that the majority of theatres and orchestras are led by men, and that the theatre, opera and dance ensembles and orchestras will also have a male majority among their members. And on the playlist of the stages we will probably find a majority of male authors. This is something that cannot be changed overnight. But perhaps, under a female president, the association will start to discuss, whether this normality still is something to be desired in the 21st century.<\/span>
\nAt the same time we will keep in mind that female theatre employees will not neccessarily earn as much as their male colleagues. Despite the equality law of 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n

Academy of Arts<\/span><\/h3>\n

On May 30 the German Academy of Arts\u2019 General Assembly in Berlin elected a new president: film director, script writer and producer Jeanine Meerapfel<\/span> <\/strong>(nearly 72) was elected for 3 years and follows Klaus Staeck<\/span> (77) and a large number of other men as first woman at the very top of this organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

The number of men preceding her is not so easy to determine, since 1918 (Prussian Academy of Arts) and then the double tracked academies in East and West Germyn between 1950 and 1993 until the united Academy of Arts of today since 1993 20 men<\/span> were president, but the Academy was founded as early as 1696 by Elector Friedrich III (who became King Friedrich I of Prussia later). As a community of artists with representative and consulting duties it was formed based on the academies of Rome and Paris. So of course there were lots more male presidents in the past.<\/span>
\nNext to the female president of today also a female vice-president was elected, it is writer \/ dramatist Kathrin R\u00f6ggla<\/span><\/strong> (nearly 44), and there is also a senate with representatives from all six sections of the academy.<\/span>
\nMeerapfel<\/strong> and R\u00f6ggla<\/strong> were both born on June 14, that is why I give their ages as \u201cnearly\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"AkademiederKuenste_en\"<\/a>The Academy of Arts may have a maximum of 500 members, at the moment (May 2015) there are 404. Members are appointed by the sections of the Academy, elected by the General Assembly and appointed by the president.<\/span>
\nThe share of women among the members is 22 %<\/span>.<\/strong> And if the same system of appointing will exist in the future then there is no way the share of women will reach the 50 % mark, because in order for this to happen, over the next decades only women could be appointed, and that is not desirable. So at the same time we can assume that the events organized by the Academy will continue to focus on male art more than on female art.<\/span>
\nNevertheless we can closely observe if under the first female president<\/span><\/strong>, for which her predecessor Klaus Staeck<\/strong> spoke out, art by women will get a greater focus in activities of the Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0These news were quickly replaced in the headlines by another presidential election.<\/span><\/p>\n

FIFA – World Football Association<\/span><\/h3>\n

Alongside other things that can be said about FIFA, it is an organization of 209 national football associations and e.g. organizes the world championships for men and women. Last week the highest body of the FIFA, the congress, and on May 29 Swiss Sepp Blatter (79) was re-elected as president – and announced his upcoming resignation a few days later. With him the organization has been led by men continuously for 111 years now. Blatter was first elecetd FIFA president in 1998, before that he was FIFA secretary general for 17 years.<\/span>
\nThe congress consists of representatives of all national associations, then there is the executive committee, with representatives fo the continental football organization, though not in proportion to their share in the congress. The proportion is settled in the FIFA constitution which also says that one (1) woman<\/strong> <\/span>is to be elected into the committee, alongside 24 men<\/span>. At the moment this is Lydia Nsekera from Burundi, who joined in 2012 as the first woman.<\/span>
\nWhen we look at the following figures we see that Europe is more than adequately represented in the executive committee. Another bit of trivia: all 9 FIFA secretary generals since 1904 have been European men, along with 7 of the 8 FIFA presidents<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Fifa_Kongress_en\"\"Fifa_Exekutiv_en\"<\/a>Yesterday, June 6, saw the start of the FIFA World Championship in Canada.<\/strong> How many of you are aware of that? How big are the PR campaigns by FIFA and the associated continental and national football associations – at least from those countries, where it is not forbidden for women and girls to play football? Here in Germany we don\u2019t see so much of FIFA & Co advertising the World Cup. I have a Panani album for collecting world cup 2015 and players\u2019 stickers and it is not so easy to actually buy the sets of stickers for that. Quite a few times a heard \u201cbut the world cup won\u2019t happen until 2018<\/em>\u201d. Only 1 of the 5 newspaper kiosks in my neighbourhood actually sell them, it is probably similar in the rest of Berlin as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Panini<\/a>What does the FIFA do for women?<\/strong> It has them play their world cup matches on artificial turf which is more dangerous to play on. It has all players undergo sex tests. Some years back Sepp Blatter<\/strong>, president still in office for now, suggested to make the players wear tighter shirts and shorter shorts to get more attention for women\u2019s football. (this plan was not implemented fortunately).<\/span>
\nHow can the very disadvantageous situation of women\u2019s football<\/strong> improve, – the worse conditions, the much lower participating and winning fees, the weaker youth development programmes – if women are so poorly represented in decision-making bodies of FIFA & Co? Let\u2019s look at the European football association, the UEFA. 16 men and 1 woman in the executive committee. And it is 15 men and 1 woman in that of the DFB, the German football association.
\nI started off today\u2019s text with a look at the German Stage Association and the Academy of Art, whose top levels are very male dominated. Now they have female presidents. What if the next FIFA president were a former female football player, a champion for girls\u2019 and women\u2019s football? What if there were a woman at the head of the UEFA or the DFB? In other national associations? Would this help towards acceptance of female football in countries, where it is still prohibited today? (The DFB only lifted its ban on female football on Oct. 31, 1970). Equal pay for equal work \u2013 would women\u2019s winning fees be lifted to the level of males\u2019? (When the German footballers won their first European Championship in 1989 each got a coffee set of Villeroy & Boch \u2013 factory\u2019s 2nd<\/sup> though), and still today the fees for women\u2019s and men\u2019s national teams to participate and win Championships are quite far apart).<\/span>
\nAnother female presidency in football would be desirable for the Italian amateur league. Felice Belloli<\/strong> was just sacked from this position, some weeks after he announced to lower subsidies for women\u2019s football even more, adding: \u201cEnough already with money for a handfull of lesbians<\/em>\u201d.<\/span>
\nThe new female president could kick-off a campaign against sexism in football right away.<\/span><\/p>\n

And next time we will have a look at the gender and age distribution within the college of cardinals and the roman curia. (haha, that\u2019s a joke).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Commerzbank<\/span><\/h3>\n

Germany\u2019s coalition government of Christian Democrats (CDU \/ CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD) decided on a 30 %<\/strong> gender quota<\/strong> for the governing bodies (Aufsichtsrat) of 110 top companies in March. For the female representation in managements big companies are obliged by law to define targets for the two top levels of management below the directorate and reach them eventually.<\/span>
\n According to journalist Manfred K\u00f6hler<\/strong> (FAZ newspaper, June 3) Frank Annuscheit<\/strong>, chief human resources officer at major bank Commerzbank, defined as targets for 2017 the quotas already reached at the end of 2014: 9 and 15 %<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span>
\n So the target is simply to hold these figures, not bother about increasing them.<\/span><\/p>\n

BFFS – The German Acting Union<\/span><\/h3>\n

A year ago the BFFS\u2019s annual general assembly elected a new executive board, or rather re-elected the old one, consisting of 6 men<\/span> and 1 woman<\/span><\/strong>. One of them, Martin May<\/span>, resigned from his post at the end of last year:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

For private reasons I don\u2019t have enough time any more to deal with the tasks within the executive body of the BFFS and therefore as from today I resign. (…) I would be happy if a woman was appointed for my now vacant position<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Two months after that it was confirmed that the chairpeople were looking for a female successor. Then I hear a rumour that maybe even an additional woman would be elected so that there would be 3 women<\/span><\/strong> and 5 men<\/span> in the board. This is not the 50<\/span><\/strong>:50<\/span> ratio that we find among the members and incidentally all acting people in Germany (and in society as a whole), but of course this would be an improvement over the current situation with just 1 woman.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Vorstand_BFFS_en\"<\/a>30 %<\/strong> is said to be the percentage where a minority can start to have an impact, that is why we hear this number so often, in the laws regarding the company executives for example, but also in the demands of Pro Quote Medien<\/a>: \u201cWe demand a obligatory female quota of 30 % for all management levels for print and online media, TV and radio<\/em>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The BFFS\u2019s next general assembly takes place in Munich at the end of June. Surprisingly, the by-election for the vacant position of the board is not on the agenda. So if no follower for Martin May<\/strong> is up for voting, then the share of women will automatically rise, from 14,3 to 16,7 %.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\nBut really, by no stretch of the mind can I imagine the BFFS being so anachronistic as to hold to an overwhelming male executive board.<\/span><\/strong>
\nAdequate representation of women and the fight for equality in our industry are connected. This is not to say that only women, or women per se fight for gender equality and men do not.<\/span>
\nBut \u2013 and looking at what is happening in this aspect in the directors\u2019 discussions momentarily in Germany \u2013 initatives very rarely com from men. The directors\u2019 union BVR<\/strong> producing their first diversity report<\/strong> was a decision by the general assembly, but it was not proposed by men \u2013 who possibly are not so aware of the alarming working situation of female directors. The initiative Pro Quote Regie<\/strong> was also kicked-off by women.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, the BFFS \u2013 with a male share of over 80 % in the executive board<\/span> \u2013 is not really known for gender politics, for putting the worse working conditions for actresses on the public agenda. And where staff decisions<\/strong> are made or advisory board positions<\/strong> are given, then it\u2019s all male line-ups mainly. Of course there would be lots of qualified women for these positions in the industry. But how about inside the BFFS? The union has 2.600 members, half of which are women<\/span><\/strong>. And among those 1.300 actresses, there shouldn\u2019t be any that would work \u2013 alongside, 1, 2, 3 other women \u2013 in a mixed group? Strange. Maybe the way the executives have looked for women was the wrong way, maybe they only asked a handfull. But I cannot really imagine that since the men at the top (and the one woman) have always stressed the importance of women for their board.<\/span>
\nSo here\u2019s hoping that they will surprise the general assembly with one or two female candidates.<\/strong> It simply cannot be that our union of all unions is the one not raising the share of women at the top. At a time, when even the senate of the Academy of Arts now has a 35,7 %<\/span> <\/strong>females, with the female members only being 22 %<\/span><\/strong>. And among the BFFS members there are really great and able women and men, that can bring forward our union\u2019s work.
\nSo, get involved, you actresses!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
